There is something to burning a candle that is very soothing and relaxing. Candles come in loads of different colours, scents and shapes. They add a touch of taste and beauty to your room and when you burn them (scented ones) the aroma in the room is very subtle and peaceful.
We all would like our candles to burn beautifully and evenly and as long as possible. Here I will share with you some tips to achieve this goal and help you enjoy your candles much longer.
First of all, there is a very basic and simple but important rule for safety issues that you are all aware of which is: Make sure you always keep your candles on a solid surface, away from curtains, pets and children.
Then, it is very important to trim the wick of your candles regularly. Trimming the wick each time, before lighting up your candles, will prevent the flame to be very high, therefore less candle will be burned. The reason is simple, the higher the flame is, the more candle will burn for that flame. Keeping the wick trimmed will allow the candle burn less for a lower flame and you will get more life out of your candles.
Many of us had this issue with our candles that it did not burn evenly i.e. did not go all the way across and instead it only went down in the center. There are so many reasons for this issue but one of the main ones is the element of the time. If we light up our candles for a short time let’s say 10 – 15 minutes, it will not be enough for the heat to reach all the way across so it will only go down in the center. For the candle to burn evenly and beautifully, the least amount of time you need is approximately half an hour. So, if you do not have enough time (at least half an hour), it is better not to light up your candle as it will only go down in the center and won’t burn evenly.
The other reason actually depends on the quality of the candle and how well it has been made. There are different types and sizes of wicks, and waxes. It is important that the right type and size of the wick has been chosen for the right type of wax. Also based on the diameter of the candles or jar, the size and the number of wicks are important. If the candle has been made incorrectly, no matter what you do it will not burn evenly.
You should also make sure that you will not leave a candle burning for more than 2-3 hours. Besides producing too much melted wax, the wick will get longer causing a higher flame that eventually cause more candles to burn as I explained earlier. But If you really want to enjoy burning a candle for more than 2-3 hours, then the solution is to have an extra candle there. Burn one for couple of hours and then blow if off while burning the other one. You can keep going between the two candles as long as you want. In that way you will actually get a longer life out of them both. Just make sure that you trim the wick of them each time you are going to light them.
Hope it was helpful for you all candle lovers out there 😉
